Grandparents Parenting Again and Kinship Carers

Issues
A Quick Guide To The Issues We Campaign On!

Over the past few years we have become well known as an active and persuasive voice in the campaing to improve the rights of Grandparents and Kinship Carers. Some of the issues we have campaigned for include:

Financial Support: The Relative Carers Allowance to be more widely available.

Housing Issues: Additional rooms required for raising children. Grandparents and Kinship Carers are often in smaller homes.

Legal Issues: Grandparents and Kinship Carers often pay heavy legal costs to protect children. There is a clear need for easy access to independent legal advice and legal aid.

Policy and Practice: Agencies should work together - especially those that have statutory powers. The impact that new policies from central and local government will have on Grandparents and Kinship Carers should always be considered.

Emotional Support and Information: Respite care and locally based groups for Grandparents and Kinship Carers providing information and practical and emotional support.
